Selling Your Home this Fall

It’s hard to believe that the summer is coming to an end for yet another year and autumn is already dropping hints of its arrival everywhere we look. The tips of leaves are starting to change colour and kids are  back at school.

This time of year is typically a bit slower for house sales as families are closing up their cottages, storing the camping gear and settling in for a busy few months, but this isn’t to say that it’s a bad time to sell your house; it just may require a little extra thought and care.

There are many ways to embrace this beautiful season and make your home stand out amongst others in your neighbourhood.

A staple of a Canadian autumn is the bright red, orange, gold and yellow leaves that bring our trees to life  as long as they stay on the trees and off your lawn, they can certainly enhance your home’s first impression. If you have a few trees on your property be sure to rake your lawn regularly to show that it’s well looked after and to make the trees stand out even more.

It’s also a good idea to think ahead of how your property will look once the leaves are all gone. Consider putting in a few plants that thrive in the fall to enhance your curb appeal.  Canadian Gardening site can help you choose plants for the season and show you the best places to plant them. It’s also important to keep your shrubs and bushes pruned and your gutters cleared of leaves and debris for both appeal and safety.
Now for the fun stuff. As the weather gets cooler and the days get shorter, making your home cozy is the key to making a sale this season. Hang a nice fall wreath on your front door and place bright orange pumpkins along your front walk or steps to make your home more inviting.

Keep the theme going on the inside as well by putting a nice autumn centrepiece on your dining room table and cleaning up your fireplace as a focal point. Putting a fresh coat of light, yet warm coloured paint on your walls, like beiges and yellows will help too. Check out this great  Canadian House and Home piece of fall décor for ideas.

For the clincher, fill your home with the scent of a freshly baked apple pie or pour some apple cider in the slow cooker with a few cinnamon sticks and orange slices. A couple pumpkin spice candles will also do the trick. This will not only make your home feel warmer and cosier, it will also help cover the stench of pets and smoke.
If this just made you hungry, Canadian Living magazine offers tons of great recipes for the season.

Don’t let the falling leaves scare you off. These tips will help you attract potential buyers and sell your home at the time that’s best for you.
