Everyone has a dream and for many Canadians that dream is to own their home. The Municipal Land Transfer Tax (MLTT) makes that dream very difficult for many Canadian families. It is time to say NO to the MLTT and to let people make their dreams come true.
The Municipal Land Transfer Tax (MLTT) has been implemented in Toronto some time ago and has been hurting the local economy since day one. While it brings a lot of cash (in the form of tax money) to the city, it takes away a large chunk of home owners’ savings. The tax has been so successful for the municipal coffers that some municipalities in Ontario have asked Queen's Park to give them the authority to charge the MLTT in their jurisdictions.
The bottom line is that MLTT makes home buying very difficult and very expensive. This results in people delaying purchasing a home, taking on a larger mortgage, and/or to moving out of their municipalities into ones that do not harbor this tax. This in turn leads to economic downturn, job loss, wealth drain, and falling housing prices. Unfortunately, your community could be next in implementing this heavy burden and initiating the spiral.
The good news is that it is not too late to take action. The decision has not been finalized and there is still time to voice public opinion and to stop Queen’s Park from approving this legislation. Everyone can contribute to protecting jobs and Ontario home buyers, by simply saying NO to another home owners’ tax. Say no to the MLTT and let the dreams come true!
Stop another home buyers’ tax.
