Landscape Trends

Here are some pretty well finished wooden raised garden beds. These are built in a way that there are multiple levels, which creates wonderful and interesting visual appeal.Frankie-Flowers posted his 2017 predictions for the top 5 landscaping trends via eLandscape.

1. Blending man made products and natural materials

2. Multi-use "sport courts" for all ages

3. The outdoor room

4. Formalizing the vegetable garden

5. Lighting for landscaping

My favourite is the idea of formalized gardens with raised beds and formal walkways. I love the look! He raves that, "Food growing is hot but growing food that looks good is sizzling in the landscape world today!" I admit, I'm not a gardener. My concern would be that I'd dedicate all the time and energy to creating these beautiful, eatable gardens only to have all the squirrels, rabbits, and racoons destroy it all! But...I love the look!

I also really like the idea of outside rooms. What a great way to increase the living space of your home! Our Kingston winters can be so brutal. I know I like to spend as much time possible outside when it's nice. The only disagreement my husband and I have about these outside rooms is the trend to have a tv outside! My answer is a definite "no." I think it would take away from nature and from the opportunity for some quality family time outside together. Plus, our daughters would probably steal the remote, anyway!
