I think it is safe to say that in any endeavor in life the results you see are usually in direct proportion to the effort you put in. Whether it be your study habits as a student, or your work ethic as an adult, you usually are rewarded based on your level of commitment and the energy you expend trying to “get it right”.
Selling your house is really no different, though it sometimes seems that sellers want to achieve the dollar value that a neighbouring house achieved, without making the same effort in getting the house ready or upgrading details they see as insignificant. My opinion is that your willingness to go the extra mile in preparing your home will substantially pay off in time it takes to sell, and also selling for top dollar.
Take the time to diligently clean and make the house sparkle, even in the hard to reach places. Clean even the things that seem a little bit redundant – it will make the home feel perfect. Change the light bulbs, don’t wait until the last minute or think it’s not a big deal. Touch up the baseboards and paint scuff marks. Wash the doors, you’d be surprised at the fingerprints you didn’t even notice. Weed the garden or do a spring clean up. Re-paint the garage doors if they need it and fix anything that looks broken. Clean up wires that are hanging from areas that look messy and fix that doorbell that has been broken for the longest time. You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars, sometimes a little elbow grease goes a long way! Put in the effort, your home is your biggest investment, and it is worth your time. You will see the results your desire when you make the effort to get it RIGHT.
