Lindsay Central Exhibition

Once again, Lindsay and surrounding communities start  their countdown to the grand opening of the LINDSAY CENTRAL EXHIBITION (LEX).  This fall fair has been a family tradition in many families in the Lindsay area for years, and my family was no exception.  As children, my parents made sure that we had the opportunity to attend this special event for at least one of the five days that the show ran for.  What did we look forward to most??? Was it the midway, the many cattle, horse or farm animal shows that would be hosted, the always popular demolition derby or truck pull.  The horse pulls were always a popular event.  The grandstand was assured a sell out crowd that night.  Or maybe it was the food that was available.  To get a slice of any one of the many varieties of home made fudge was a hit on my list.  Or the cotton candy, candy apples, and always a big bag of caramel corn.  Oh my.  What great memories I have and I am so grateful for that.

The LEX hosted the first every exhibition in the fall of 1854.  The LEX was located just north of the Ross Memorial Hospital on Angeline St. N., until 2007 when it moved to their new location at 354 Angeline St. S., just off Hwy. 7.  The new home of the LEX is now a facility sitting on 110 acres with a grand stand which will seat 2,000 people, a cattle barn, sheep and goat barn, horse barn and ring, a main show ring, and much more.  Lots of room for an expanded midway, track area, and expanded space to accomodate compeditors in the many farm animal events.  The Farmers Mutual Exhibition Building hosts exhibitors of all kinds for this event. This is a recreational facility that you must see to believe what it offers.

This annual fall fair starts Wednesday September 17th, and the parade is always the kickoff to the fair.  It runs through September 21st, so please take time out of your busy schedule, and head to the LEX.  Pack up the kids and your friends and make a day of it.  Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and youth.  Grab some of that home made fudge and take a trip down memory lane.  You won't be disappointed.
