2009 real estate in Estevan "at a glance"

What a surprising year.  We entered the year with trepidation, as we heard news of widespread unemployment and recession.  Estevan proved to be  a unique environment, as did all of Saskatchewan, by GROWING rather than shrinking, and by maintaining a strong real estate market.  Although the year started slowly, we ended the year just shy of 2008's numbers and 2010 is already off to a great start.  We can feel the "vibe" in the community as people arrive daily seeking employment and accomodation.  The rental market is still tight, and we have 50% fewer homes available in Estevan than we did this time last year.  Inventory is shrinking, with the only good selection of housing in the upper end.  Having said that, Estevan still boasts some of the most affordable housing in all of Canada, with average prices in the $225,000 - $250,000 range.  A brand new home can be had for $400,000.  If you are planning a move to Estevan, plan ahead.  Don't assume there will be accomodation available - even hotel rooms are hard to find.  And we'll be happy to help you if we can.
