The Scene in YYC

It is a common myth that summertime is when all the fun things to do in Calgary happen. While it is true that Calgary packs loads of events into July and August, such as Stampede, Taste of Calgary, and Globalfest, events are happening all year round!

While the weather is still being friendly, take hold of these events and really have fun! There are so many things to do and see in Calgary. As a City, Calgary has loads to offer and showcase. Exploring these events is a great way to get to know your city better and really celebrate what makes Calgary so wonderful!

We’ve listed some of the major events coming up from now until Christmas! So put the dates in your calendar, book time off of work, and go enjoy YYC!

1). The Calgary International Film Festival is happening from right now until September 28th! It is the 13th annual festival and it promises some amazing films from homegrown producers, writers, directors, and actors. Come support Calgary’s thriving film industry and spy out some of the local talent! Tickets to screenings are very fairly priced, and there are loads of different types of films to see. Check it out!

2) Screamfest is another annual event Calgary hosts and this year it is taking place at the Stampede grounds. They have loads of different things to explore, games to play, food to eat, and people to scare (of which you could be one). This year their special features are: The Bates Motel, Buried Alive, The Walking Dead, and more! If you like being scared out of your mind, check out their website at  http://www.screamfest.ca for opening hours this October!

3). The Spruce Meadows Christmas Market is the perfect way to a). stock up on Christmas Gifts, b). see amazing live performances and fill your tummy with food samples, and c). get completely inspired for Christmas. The grounds are covered in Christmas lights, jingle bells plays in the air twenty-four-seven, and there are amazing booths filled with unique items to browse and purchase! Make sure you take at least a couple of hours to see everything. If you have kids, they even have Santa’s reindeer visit the grounds! Rumor has it even Rudolf will be there… Check their website at http://www.sprucemeadows.com/christmas_market.jsp for details.

These are the three highlights that finish off Calgary’s 2014 event calendar with a bang!
