Annual housing tips

It is always recommended to stay on top of maintenance around the home. As we all have busy lives, some of these projects tend to get pushed to the side. However, there are a few home maintenance jobs that you should try to do yearly. See below for details:

Batteries: Take time twice a year to give your house a top-to-bottom check for anything pertinent that is battery run. At least twice a year, you should change the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. This will ensure that you are living in a safe environment.

Doors & Windows: Stay on top of leaks by checking out the seals and caulking on your doors and windows at least once a year. Walk around the outside of your home and look for any potential breakage in caulking. Do any necessary touch ups as needed. This will help keep your heating bills lower.

Gutters: Take time each year (especially after a long fall, or harsh winter) to make sure that your gutters are cleared. In Ontario we have a lot of falling leaves in the fall and it is common for them to back up gutters. If not cleaned out regularly, this can lead to further problems, so be sure to stay on top of your gutters.
