Canadian home sales up according to CREA

According to the Canadian Real Estate Association’s (CREA)statistics released last week showed a small increase in national resale housing activity in April 2012. From March 2012 to April 2012, home sales were up 0.8% and actual activity stood 11.5% above levels reported in April of 2011.

In addition, the number of newly listed homes edged back 0.2% from March to April, but the national average home price was up 0.9% on a year-over-year basis in April.

The biggest monthly increases in sales were seen in Toronto and Calgary for the second month in a row. Also contributing to the increase in national sales were gains seen in Montreal, Winnipeg, Edmonton as well as London and St. Thomas. Declines were seen in Ottawa, Windsor-Essex, Quebec City, the Fraser Valley and Vancouver.
