Designing your home for a ‘cozy’ winter feel

It’s a fact… winter is really on its way now. As the cold weather rolls in, and we start seeing the early morning frost it’s a good time for a change (both indoors and out)! There are a few small touches that you can make inside your home to give it a cozy feel for the cold winter months.

For living rooms or family rooms add a warm feel by changing your throw pillows to more luxurious fabrics and warm winter colours. Consider some oversized pieces to give the illusion of ‘sinking’ into the couch after a long, cold day. Adding throws or blankets draped over the couches or arms of your chairs can also provide a cozy feel to the room.

Lighting can also drastically change the feel and mood of a room. Consider dimmer lighting and lots of candles to add a warm glow to any room. Don’t forget to make sure your fireplace is in working order, as this is one of the most inviting features on a cold day.

Thicker, softer fabrics instantly add a cozy feel to any room. Try adding a few plush area rugs around the home to provide a soft and warm platform for cold winter feet. Updating accessories is also a small way to add big impact to a room. Swap your photos for more ‘season’ relevant pictures and be sure to add some scented candles to warm up the feel in any room.

Making over any room doesn’t have to be a big feat… by swapping a few items and accessories around, a whole new feel can be added to your home.
