With the Super Bowl approaching, I thought it fitting to write a small blog on hosting the ultimate Super Bowl Party. Whether an avid football fan or not, it is a great excuse to invite old friends over for a day of fun, laughter and good food.
One of the most casual and relaxed parties to host, is definitely the Super Bowl party. Associated with fun finger foods, loud banter and great drinks, this party is a definite must in the hosting world. To prepare for your party, be sure to send out invitations ahead of time (whether handwritten or by email).
To prepare, think of all your favourite ‘bad’ foods, and put them on your shopping list. This is a time to indulge a little and serve up everyone’s favourite guilty pleasures. Think chicken wings, layered dips, chile, chips, sliders, pizza and any other indulgences that people may have. Always include a few lighter choices too, like veggies and dip for those who are less likely to indulge.
Be sure to have your bar stocked with plenty of beer, wine, spirits, mix and of course water. Have lots of ice on hand and cut up limes, lemons and any other garnishes that your guests might require for their drinks. Have a bar area set up so that guests feel comfortable to refill their own drinks (remember this is a casual affair). Have plenty of napkins, plates and utensils set out near your food table.
The TV will be the focal point for many, so make sure that your room is set up in a way that allows good viewing for your guests. Consider bringing in TVs from other rooms to maximize viewing. If your friends are into betting, be sure to have pads of paper and change handy for a fun way to fuel the competition. Most of all make sure your guests feel relaxed and at home!
