Making your home environmentally friendly

There are many things that you can do at home to help the environment, and potentially save you money. By making a few minor changes, you can make a big difference. See below for some environmentally friendly household tips:

  • Avoid waste by using cloths or rags for cleaning instead of paper towels
  • Use your green bin and recycling bins. We all have them, yet still, so much unnecessary waste is going into the garbage instead of the green bin. Make it a priority in your household to use Ontario’s great recycling systems
  • Switch light bulbs in your home to energy efficient bulbs
  • Wash your clothing in cold water instead of warm or hot. This will help to reduce energy consumption and should save you money
  • Further reduce energy consumption and save money by hanging clothes to dry
  • When buying new appliances, be sure to purchase energy efficient ones
  • Reduce water consumption when brushing your teeth, doing dishes etc… by making sure that you don’t leave the tap running
  • Use your window coverings to help control the temperature in your home
  • By making minor changes such as those mentioned above, you can help to save the environment and save yourself money.
