Planning ahead

As we move along farther into 2012, it is time to start thinking about spring plans and summer wishes. Although it might be too early yet to get these plans into action, it’s a good idea to start budgeting and planning for any outdoor landscaping ideas you may have. One of the latest trends for homeowners is to create beautiful and functional outdoor living spaces.

An outdoor living space can really act as an extension of your home. For our warm Ontario summers, homeowners get a lengthy period of time which they can indulge in and enjoy their outdoor havens. Before you begin to think about creating an outdoor living space, make sure you consider how much it will cost you. Landscaping can be very expensive, so depending on what you need to do, this may be a big financial undertaking.

Think about how you and your family will want to utilize the space… will it be for entertaining, cooking, dining or just relaxing? Consider how many people you will want to seat comfortably and what type of seating you will want (big plush couches, or structured pieces with no cushions?) Also consider all the extras and what you can realistically afford. Consider accessories and technologies like lighting, sound systems or even an outdoor kitchen.

An outdoor living space can truly be an extension of your home. If you are considering creating one in your back yard, talk to some experts now and create a realistic budget so that you can get started as soon as spring has sprung!
