Despite the growth in the Halton Region, police report that crime has dropped to a historic low!
In a Crime Statistic Overview of 2012, unveiled last Thursday, Halton Police say that this is the lowest crime rate since it officially became a region in 1974.
"We live in an incredible community here in Halton and are so fortunate to live in a community where our crime rate is amongst the lowest in all of Canada, and saw a further significant reduction in crime again in 2012," said Halton Police Chief Stephen Tanner. "
"Many factors contribute to that and we know that among the demograhics, an aging population, fewer youths between 15 and 23, a positive local economy and relatively high incomes all contribute to these results," said the chief .
Violent crime is down 18.5%
Property Crime is down 10.5%
Sexual assault is down 17%
Assault is down 22.1%
Break and Enter is down 9%
Auto theft is down 33.9%
Theft under $5000 is down 2.8%
Fraud is down 29.9%
Arson is down 36.7%
Sounds to me like Halton Region is a pretty terriffic place to live!
