Preparing your home before a home inspection

When you are listing your home, it is good to conduct your own ‘mini’ home inspection before the real deal takes place. This will allow you to be prepared for any surprise defects in your home that the buyer may demand you fix. Checking out some of the basics and having them in working order before your home inspection should eliminate some surprises for you. See below for some of the things you can ensure are in working order before the home inspection:

  • Check all electrical outlets and make sure they are in working order
  • Check your air conditioner and hot water tank and be sure to have them serviced if it has been a long time since your last servicing
  • Take a good look at all windows and make sure that they are properly sealed and all windows open and close
  • Have your furnace inspected and serviced
  • Check flooring and make sure there are no loose floorboards etc…
  • Check all taps and faucets to ensure they are in good working order
