Staging Your Home to Sell

In a competitive market, it is crucial that your home stands out. In order to give the best possible impression to potential buyers, it is essential to do a little bit of staging. This doesn’t necessarily mean paying for a professional stager, or buying countless upgrades, but it does require a bit of time, organizing and cleaning. See below for some tips on staging your home to sell at top dollar.

  1. De-clutter: This is one of the most important aspects. Clear all counter tops, coffee tables and desktops. This provides a bigger sense of space throughout your home.
  2. De-personalize: Buyers need to imagine themselves in your home (not your family). Unfortunately this means removing family photos and personal trinkets.
  3. Minimize: Minimize the amount of décor around your home. Keep spaces minimally decorated.
  4. Clean: This cannot be stressed enough. Each corner, cupboard and nook in your home needs to be scrubbed, vacuumed and cleaned. This provides potential buyers with a sense that your home has been well looked after.
  5. Pitch: This is a good time to get rid of old items that you no longer use. Start a goodwill bag, or donate items that you will no longer need or use.
  6. Lighting: Ensure all lights are in working order and if necessary, but a few more to brighten up your home.
  7. Paint: Keep paint colours neutral and warm. A fresh coat of paint can go a long way.
  8. Rearrange: Tidy and organize cupboards and closets. Use space organizers to make your small spaces appear clean and spacious.
  9. Inviting: Make your home inviting with minor touches such as fresh flowers or a table set with fine china can make your home feel warm and welcoming.
  10. Curb Appeal: Ensure that the front of your home is appealing. Put some fresh flowers or hanging baskets on your front porch, ensure that all exterior lights are in working order, cut the lawn and sweep the entry way.

These are some of the minor things that you can do to attract more buyers and to have your home show at its best. For further assistance, you can always hire a professional stager. Most importantly, have a clean, bright, organized home with minimal clutter.
