It is never too early to start preparing your home to sell. In fact, I would highly recommend prepping your home now, even if you don’t plan on selling until the spring or summer of 2012. That way, when you do decide to list your home, you will not be overwhelmed by the number of tasks and preparations you will have to make.
For that reason, there are a few things you may want to consider doing now. This will save you time and stress when the day comes to list your house.
If you are planning to sell in the spring of 2012, it is the perfect time now to start planting your tulip bulbs. Get rid of old ones and plant an abundance of different coloured tulips. This will provide low maintenance, beautiful curb appeal come springtime.
Make a to-do list and start checking it off one by one. As we are often indoors during the winter months, it is a good time to get at those projects that we tend to put to the side. Use this time to change hardware in your home to a more modern look or fix anything that may need attention.
Make sure your home is properly insulated. Check all windows to make sure that caulking is in so that no winter air is leaking into your home. Be sure to change the filter in your furnace.
Clean and de-clutter your home from top to bottom. Use the cold winter days to start going through old clothing, toys or other items that you may be able to get rid of or donate.
Get into the basement and clear it out. Often the basement and storage spaces become a space where we let junk pile up. If you are selling in the spring, it is a great time to get at these spaces now.
When you do decide to list your home, you will be much less stressed and overwhelmed if you start doing some of the above projects now. A move is often an overwhelming time in one’s life, but with preparation, organization and the assistance of a professional REALTOR®, your move can be a quick and stress-free process.
