Two schools mark 50th anniversarries
A pair of Oakville schools is celebrating their 50th anniversaries this year with ceremonies this May.
Gladys Speers and Sunningdale public schools are celebrating this milestone. Both schools will hold ceremonies and inviting their former students to come out to the festivities.
Sunningdale will host its ceremony on Saturday, May 7. There will be an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. with an official ceremony at 2 p.m. Former students, teachers and staff are encouraged to come and reconnect with others. There will be a display of school memorabilia and photos along with light refreshments. Furthermore there will be a cake cutting and an official opening of new classroom areas and a butterfly garden at the school.

Gladys Speers is hosting its open house on Saturday, May 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a formal ceremony at 1:45 p.m. There will be 500 anniversary cupcakes, courtesy of Gladys Speers parents. Several classrooms will have displays of photos and memorabilia for each of the five decades of the school’s existence as well as a display of a time capsule from 25 years ago. There is also an after party planned at the Firehouse.
