Hockey moms and dads in Port Credit can breathe easy because Port Credit Memorial Arena is once again officially open for business.
The historic arena on Stavebank Rd held an official re-opening celebration this morning to commemorate the completion of the $10.2 million project, originally scheduled to be completed on Jan. 1.
The construction to the arena began in March 2010 and among the new additions to the facility include an open lobby area in the upper and lower levels, upgraded change rooms with showers, a larger concession area with a heated viewing area and an elevator.
Ward 1 Councillor Jim Tovey was on hand to kick off this morning's festivities which included a free family skate and tours of the arena.
Additionally, a time capsule commissioned by the Port Credit 175th Anniversary Committee was sealed into the wall of the facility. It will be opened in 25 years, on Port Credit's 200th anniversary.
