Kitchen Tool Emergencies

My sister Heidi Haywood sells Pampered Chef (everything a kitchen needs from pots and pans to knives, serving dishes, bakeware and spices). If you call her at home and happen to get her answering machine, it says feel free to call her on her cell phone for all kitchen tool emergencies. The first time I heard it, I chuckled. Who would ever have a kitchen tool emergency? How is that even possible? Then one day it actually happened. I was cooking dinner at Mom and Dad's house and needed to open a can of mushroom soup to add to my ham and noodle casserole. I easily found the can opener, their Pampered Chef Smooth Edge Can Opener. I don't have a Pampered Chef can opener and had never seen one up close (how often do you open cans at other people's houses, after all). It is different from my old fashioned one. I checked it out on her website. It says the "steel cutting mechanism eliminates sharp edges from cans. Unique lid gripper lifts lids easily. Also removes metal caps from bottled beverages." I obviously could figure out the metal cap part. It was the rest of the description that caused trouble. I couldn't get it to attach to the can let alone open it. I tried and tried and tried. Help! Then I remembered my sister's message about kitchen tool emergencies. Wow, it's happening to me, I thought. I smiled, went back to the drawer and dug around until I found their old can opener. Emergency averted. Can't believe a can opener did me in. Since then Mom has given me lessons on how to use the can opener.
