Richmond and Vancouver vs. Manhattan and San Francisco: Volume of Sales over $2 million

On May 28, 2010, The Wall Street Journal reported that 49 homes sold for $2 million or more in San Francisco and 402 homes sold for $2 million or more in Manhattan in the first quarter of this year. The research was part of a study for The Journal by MDA DataQuick which reported that these sales were actually on par with sales for 2005 which was the peak year for volume of sales in the USA. San Francisco had reported 47 sales over $2 million in the first quarter of 2005 while Manhattan had 311. So how do Richmond and Vancouver compare? I was curious and so decided to check it out. To date, the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver reports that in the first quarter of 2010, there were 194 properties sold in Vancouver for $2 million or more (2005 saw only 24 sales in the same period). Richmond reported 6 sales for the first quarter of 2010 for $2 million or more (there were no sales in the same period of 2005 at this price point). How interesting!
