Time to crack open your last Panettone

February 3rd is one of my new favorite holidays. I love panettone, the special Christmas bread made in Milan. Last year I discovered that February 3rd is a holiday in Italy that celebrates panettone. On the Feast of San Biagio (Saint Blaise in English), eating panettone is thought to prevent throat illnesses -- legend has it that San Biagio saved a boy from choking on a fish bone by giving him a piece of bread and as a result, he has become the protector of throats. Eating panettone for breakfast today will help protect your throat from illness. Eating panettone for breakfast any day is just plain delicious!
