You did it! You are about to officially become a homeowner. Here’s a quick checklist of what you need to do next.


Take your paperwork to your mortgage provider:

 They will need a copy of the MLS listing, a copy of the accepted offer to purchase including all waivers and notices of fulfillment and proof of the source of your down payment.


Arrange a meeting with your Lawyer:

Your lawyer will need to meet with you before closing. Have your original mortgage commitment letter and contact information related to your mortgage. Bring your photo identification drivers license or passport will usually suffice. Ask ahead of time what if any fees will be due at this time and have them prepared as per your lawyers request ex: bank draft, personal check, certified check etc.


Notify any local services you will require:

Although Newspaper home delivery is seldom, you will still want to notify any additional services required for your new home.

  • Telephone/cable/internet
  • Water
  • Hydro
  • Gas


Contact your local post office and notify them of your new address. Many post offices will re direct your mail for a period of time for a minimal fee.


Expert Tip: Plan and prepare, typically a home closes 30-90 days after acceptance of the offer. Create a list of “to do’s” and check off as you go.
