How to Hire The Right Contractor For a Major Home Project -- Part 2

Where can you find a contractor?

1. At Home Shows.

Contractors will have booths set up at home show events. You can talk to them and make inquiries. They will have print materials and a business card so you can contact them. Brochures will help provide information and can be a resource you can use to narrow down your list to determine who you want to hire.

2. Through word of mouth.

Friends and family will have at some point hired someone to do some work for them and if you like what they did for that person you can ask to get the contact information.

3. Online or through the Yellow Pages directory.

You can do online searches for contractors and many should have online presence through a website. In the Yellow Pages phone book, you can find contractors under various categories and many will have ads displayed as well.

4. From a local building material supply store.

Many contractors form relationships with material supply stores so when you are in the store you can always ask if they know names of people who you could contact to get more information on a potential job that you need done.

5. Your local homebuilder’s association.

Many contractors will have a membership with a homebuilder’s association. This demonstrates their professionalism and that do mean serious business.
