The term Kawartha was derived from the original word Ka-wa-tha meaning "land of reflections" in the Anishinaabe language. Tourism promoters changed it to Kawartha meaning "bright waters and happy lands."
Both words certainly describe our region well! Located just 90 minutes northeast of Toronto, you will find stunning lakes of all shapes and sizes, winding rivers, scenic farmland and limitless wilderness. Our office is centrally located between Pigeon Lake to the west and Kasshabog Lake to the east. I primarily focus on Pigeon, Chemong, Sandy, Buckhorn, Katchewanooka, Clear, Stoney, White and Kasshabog Lakes.
As you will see when clicking on the individual lakes they represent a diverse mix from small to large, narrow to round, weedy to sandy and clear to island filled. We are sure to find a lake and cottage to meet your needs.

Chemong Lake

Chemong (pronounced "shi-MONG)" is a lake 8 km NW of Peterborough measuring roughly 14 km in length and 1 km wide. This lake is famous for its fishing. Host to several popular fishing tournaments throughout the open fishing season. The most common game fish in the lake are smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye, yellow perch, Carp, Muskellunge as well as a number of Panfish. Commercial and recreational fishing has caused the introduction of Zebra mussels, which has changed the ecosystem by filtering the water and making it clearer. Some fish, such as Walleye, dislike the clear water and have become less abundant. There are a number of small islands on the lake, most of which have cottages or are commonly used as impromptu campsites.

Pigeon Lake

Similar to Chemong Lake as a popular fishing destination, this lake is considered by many as the best fishing lake in the Kawarthas. Roughly 27 km long and up to 3 km wide this diverse lake offers a very natural environment including large islands and many weedy areas for fish to hide and spawn. Populated with many resonably priced average sized cottages this is a great lake for a starter cottage.
