Selling yourself to buy a home, eh?

LOL, no, it's NOT quite what you think! But in a tough housing market, this sure seems like a creative solution to helping buyers find a home they want when inventory is low and demand is high. And from my perspective as a real estate representative, it beats spending days knocking on doors annoying people in any given neighbourhood by asking if they want to sell their house!

Now, instead of a salesman coming to your door, you have a human interest story arriving in your mailbox, something that puts a human face on a need that someone (who in all likelihood is more than ready to slam a door in a real estate agent's face) may actually choose to respond to.

I realize that this approach is not for everybody. But in a tough buyer's market, it may just provide the edge you need over all the other buyers competing for houses out there.

Does it work? Are previously unknown sellers coming out of the woodwork to respond to appeals like this?

It's too soon to tell, but I'll let you know if I hear anything!
