Trading in the the area of South Georgian Bay (Wasaga Beach to Meaford), I'm often puzzled by the "cut-off line" that seems to exist at Thornbury when buyers are considering homes or recreational property. Perhaps it's extra 8 minutes you may be from the hills, or some sort of stigma, I don't get it!
In terms bang for the buck, The Town of Meaford is hard to beat. It features a full service Marina, “boutique” hospital linked to Grey Bruce Health, two elementary schools and the only high school between Collingwood and Owen Sound. Just about every neighbourhood is a stone’s throw to Georgian Bay and a short walk to grocery stores, restaurants, a world class theatre centre, public pool and sports fields, countless sandy public beaches including camping at the beautiful and Town-owned Memorial Park and fishing on the Bighead River. All of this within walking distance of a downtown steeped in history!
With average house prices up to 47% less ( YTD Nov 2012, per GTAR stats) than Town of Blue Mountains only 5 minutes away, and many seasonal waterfront residences nearing the end of their useful life, Meaford is the best kept secret on the bay and worth a serious look.
