One of my favourite things to do when I want to get away from the office is to enjoy the many farms that surround urban Milton. After all, being a "foodie" means I am always searching for the freshest and best local ingredients I can find and is also one of the reasons I moved here.
A couple of weeks ago, I found myself between appointments and decided to check out Featherstone Farm. I had been following them on Social Media and was impressed, so naturally had to see what it was all about. Located at 6261 Guelph Line, between Derry and Britannia Road, it's only a 12 minute drive from Milton's Hawthorne Village on the Park community (HVOTP), where I reside.
I pull into the farm, just past the dinner hour and was pleasantly surprised to be quickly greeted by Michelle Macdonald (one of the farmers and owners), followed by a range of Roosters and other random farm animals. It felt like I had been driving hours to get here since there was no way something so good was so close to home.
Cheerful as ever, Michelle gave me a quick tour of the farm and put a dozen eggs
together for me. This MUST be what our grandmothers mean when they talk about having fresh eggs "back in the day". The eggs were just laid and came in all different colours and sizes. So far, I'm impressed.
With a host of GMO-free, grain feed products to chose from, you simply cannot get this high-quality, fresh product in your local grocery store.
It's very clear that Michelle and her family love what they do and that their passion is delivering top-notch food from their Farm to your table.
I highly recommend taking a trip to this Farm and trying out whatever they have available when you visit (They get sold out of many items quickly, so LIKE them on Facebook to know when new items are in-stock). It's a short drive from any home in Milton and you won't be disappointed.
