More seniors are divorced or separated: StatsCan

 Canada’s elderly population is growing, a trend that began several decades ago. In 2007, the population aged 65 and older was 4.4 million and seniors made up 13% of the total population. That compares with 11% in 1987 and 8% in 1972. The proportion of divorced or separated seniors who are 65 and older has tripled in the last three decades, according to the latest Statistics Canada figures

The proportion of divorced or separated seniors who are 65 and older has tripled in the last three decades, according to the latest Statistics Canada figures. In 1981, only four per cent of seniors were divorced or separated. By 2011, that number had risen to 12 per cent.
