The Town of Oakville has announced multiple improvements to parks in the Bronte and Lakeshore Woods areas. Donovan Bailey Park, Bronte Athletic Park, Nautical Park and the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre will undergo a number of changes designed to improve the use of these spaces. They're all part of Oakville's plan to improve the overall quality of life of its residents.
Bronte Athletic Park
Bronte Athletic Park, located just east of East Street on the north side of Lakeshore Road, will see enhanced parking facilities complete with a loop to create a safer solution to the current dead-end lot. New pathways will ensure pedestrians don't have to share the driveway with vehicles.
Baseball players and fans alike will also benefit from the improvements, with enclosed players' benches, improved backstop height, and baseline fencing to minimize foul balls being hit to Lakeshore Road.
Fitness Centre to Open in Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre
There's great news for residents near the Third Line and Bridge area, with the Town of Oakville announcing that a new fitness centre is opening in September 2014. The facility will be one of four in Oakville.
The "flexible and hassle-free" membership the Town is offering has an array of advantages including access to Glen Abbey Rec Centre, Iroquois Ridge Rec Centre, and River Oaks Community Centre. The pass offers unlimited access to strength and cardio equipment, recreational swims at all pools, recreational skating at all areas, a fitness appraisal by a certified personal trainer, access to all squash and raquetball courts, and unlimited passes to 75+ fitness classes weekly. Visit Oakville.ca for more information.
Donovan Bailey Park
Improvements to this park just north of Bronte Athletic Park will see new rest areas along the trail, tree plantings to add to its character, and a newly installed pedestrian activated signal that will allow an easier way for people on foot to cross to the northern part of the trail. Finally, a new parking lot footprint will allow greenspace to be added to the area as well.
Nautical Park & Shell Park
Nautical Park, located in Lakeshore Woods, will see some new sports facilities installed including a basketball court in the fall, an outdoor hockey rink for winter 2015, and tennis courts built in Shell Park. The tennis courts will be on the east side of Great Lakes Blvd beside the current dog park. These are subject to 2015 capital budget funding.
These are exciting times for the residents of West Oakville. Kids and adults alike will have brand new facilities to use daily, creating an even greater sense of community in this great town.
