Many people rent for many different reasons. Perhaps your new to a particular city and not sure where you would like to settle down. Renting is a great way to get to know the area without making the commitment of buying a home. Perhaps you travel or work a lot and are not ready to take on the commitment of owning a home. With renting in most cases its worry free. You don't have to worry about the maintenance or upkeep of the building.
In most cases your landlord won't want you changing up the paint color or making design changes in the building, however there are many different decorating ideas you can implement to make your rented space feel like home.
Designer Amanda Forrest has many different suggestions as to how to make your rented space not feel so rented without investing a lot of money.
1. Use Area Rugs - be sure to measure before you go to the store to be sure it fits in the elevator or through doorway. You get to take it with you when you leave!
2. Invest in statement lighting - Replace existing lighting fixtures with something Fun! Once again you take it with you when you leave!
3. Use Mirrors - These allow light in the space and make it look bigger. Again you can take it with you when you leave.
4. Accessorize - Quirky accessories make the space personal.
Always consult your landord before making any major changes.
