Dress Up Your Home This Season
With the month of December in full swing, it’s definitely time to get your home prepped for the holidays. It’s ok if you haven’t put up decorations yet, but there’s no reason to wait another minute. You are very likely planning to have at least some friends or family over to your home for some festive fun in the next month. Before that doorbell rings, make sure that your home is looking its best. Here are just a few tips to help you get going as your put your home into the Christmas Spirit.
Make a First Impression – Many people choose the standard string lights or icicle lights along the roof and around the windows on the exterior of the house. Ensure that all the lights are in good condition and all the bulbs are working. Try adding some whimsy to your outdoor décor by hanging large ornaments in the tree, candy cane solar lights along the walkway or changing out the typical porch light for a green or blue light bulb. Consider showcasing an inflatable holiday icon or unique seasonal outdoor feature to really make your yard festive.
Lighten Up - Lighting is a wonderful way to highlight Christmas centerpieces, traditional holiday artwork and holiday decorations. Try adding twinkle lights to your evergreen garlands, or hang lights in unconventional places like the kitchen or bathroom. Using candles as part of your table center or on top of your bookshelves will add a softer feel to your home and a touch of elegance to any get-together.
Think Outside the Box - Expand your decorations beyond the Christmas tree or front door wreath. Create a table centerpiece with a large glass bowl or vase filled with colourful ornaments. Drape real or artificial garland over mirrors, across bookshelves, railings and along the fireplace mantle. Pick up some seasonal throw pillow covers or table runners to bring a little bit of Christmas decoration to your existing furniture.
Get Fired Up - A fireplace adds ambiance to any room and creates a warm and inviting atmosphere for you and your guests. If your home isn't equipped with a fireplace already, consider installing an electric one. They come in a variety of sizes, colours and styles, and are easy to install.
Don’t forget to “hang your stockings by the chimney with care.”
