Why is it important to Remember?
Remembrance Day is a Stat holiday. So for many, it is a day off of the everyday to relax, get some extra work done, visit with family and friends and or visit your local cenotaph. Canadians from all over the province choose to commemorate this day as they wish, like any other holiday, really. However, Remembrance Day is not like any other holiday, it is not a day to join in joyful festivities. The market has yet to touch this day, and make it something materialistic like Christmas or even Halloween because for Canadians it is a different holiday, marked as sacred. One where Canadians acknowledge and honour fallen soldiers, and show appreciation for those who fought and continue to fight for our freedom. The generations of today, thankfully, have not felt the direct effects of war, but we have our family and our Nation to remind us that we must never forget, for if we do, we risk repeating history, a path I sure do not want my family to take. So on November 11 on the 11th hour, where will you be? I know that I will be taking a vow of silence for those who sacrificed and continue to sacrifice their lives to give my family a better one.
