New Denver is located 47 km west of Kaslo and 47 km southeast of Nakusp, situated on the Slocan Lake. A moderate climate, clean air, and excellent recreation all around are what give New Denver its ideal living conditions. It has historical roots in the silver mining industry as ore was transported over the mountains by mule from nearby Sandon, stockpiled later to be shipped across to the south side of Slocan Lake by sternwheeler. Slocan Lake, un-dammed and glacier fed (New Denver Glacier is located in Valhalla Provincial Park), is one of the most pristine lakes in British Columbia.

New Denver’s historical connection is evident everywhere, the town seemingly resembling a big museum with old buildings and mining artifacts. Sandon, located only 14km out of New Denver is one of BC’s more interesting heritage sites so be sure to check it out. The Galena trail is a 13km long non-motorized trail for biking and hiking, and an incredible view of New Denver, Sandon and Silverton can be seen from the lookout point on Idaho Peak.
