The Canadian population hit a new demographic milestone last year as the population of people 65 and older exceeded the number of children under 15 for the first time in history. With an aging population, developers are beginning to introduce new residential communities that cater to the changing needs of the older demographics.
“The Canadian economy is getting hit with a tsunami of people entering the 55 and over age bracket, said Kern Kalideen,” Executive Pastor at Global Kingdom Ministries. “As we age, our physical, social, economic and spiritual needs change, so we want to be able to meet that increasingly large section of the population.”

Sponsored by Global Kingdom Ministries, the two tower development is one of city’s first adult lifestyle community geared to evolve with the needs of its residents.

“For many years, there has not been any significant development that meets the needs of seniors in Scarborough,” said Kalideen. “Local residents end up having to go out of the city to Aurora, Georgetown, Oshawa or Newmarket.”
With Trinity Ravine Towers, local residents can “age in place,” staying in the same neighbourhood where they’ve built deep roots and live a maintenance free lifestyle without having to change doctors, dentists or even grocery stores. In addition to typical condominium-style amenities including a fitness centre, concierge and games room, the project will also have an on-site Wellness Centre staffed with nurses, doctors and physiotherapists.
“It’s a great concept because we will be able to provide them with some assisted care within their own suites and they won’t have to move every time their physical needs change,” explained Melanie Burton, Director of Sales. “Down the road our vision is to have a nursing care facility with 24 hour care so residents can easily be transferred without having to go through a government run assessment system.”
Located directly across from the Global Kingdom Ministries church and community centre, Trinity Ravine Towers also offers a wealth of opportunities for community involvement. From lectures and movies to crafts, workshops and day trips, the development provides activities for all to enjoy. And, while there’s no obligation to be active members of the church, residents can volunteer for church activities including community outreach programs, youth mentoring or the organization’s soup kitchen where 750 meals are served each week.
