Friday was the official grand opening of the new Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health Care Building in Central Elgin.
The facility is located due North of the old facility which will be closing down this week on Sunset Drive. With 89 beds and over 233,000 square feed of space, the new facility is expected to make a huge difference to the patients that make their way through those doors. The new building will be dedicated to forensic psychiatry. Former MPP Steve Peters, who initiated talks about the new facility when he was still in office, it was great to see it officially open.
The fifteen acute care beds taht used to be housed in the old building have moved to London temporarily bu then will be moved to St.Thomas Elgin General Hospital once construction is completed there. Premier Kathleen Wynn, Minister of Health Deb Mathews, Bishop Fabbaro and MP Jef Yurek were just some of the dignataries on hand for the celebration.
