Construction is now underway at the St.Thomas Elgin General Hospital STEGH) to prepare for their new mental health wing. The west wing of the hospital will be transformed to accomodate 15 mental inpatient beds along with related outpatient services by the end of September 2013. Chief of Psychiatry Dr. Giuseppe Guaiana says the space is reasoalbly good to accomodate mental health beds on a temporary basis.
STGEH is part of the mental restructuring occurring across southwestern Ontario transferring beds and services from St.Joseph's Regional Mental Health Care to four partner hospitals. A new St. Joseph's mental health facitlity is expected to be completed by 2017.
