Put the cell phone down, that's the message from the Ontario Provincial Police. Starting today (Monday) thet're launching their Distracted Driving Campaign which runs until April 22nd. Police are asking drivers to take a hard line on distracted driving once and for all by making today the first day of a llife-long commitment to keep all hand-held- devices ut of reach and out of use while behind the wheel. Constable Kevin Howe say's those who use hand-held phones while driving, put the-lives of their passengers and other drivers at risk.
According to the OPP, offices laid close to 16,000 distracted driving charges across the province last year (2012). They continue to see careless drivers texting and talking on their cell phones and engaging in other forms of distraction every day.
