The Ontario Government and the Elementary Teachers Association of Ontario have reached a Memorandum of Understanding. The proposed agreement put in place will include measures to improve student learning, a study on teacher's workloads and recognizes that teachers and student safety is paramount. As part of the MOU the government will create a new shared savings initiative that will give teachers a paid incentive, if they use less than 6 full sick days in 2013-14. ETFO Thames Valley Local President Phillip Mack says the MOU should bring comfort to some and it's not perfect, but it's better than where they were before.
ETFO members have been paid 2% less than other teachers in the province since 2008 and that will be lifted once the current agreement ends in August 2014. The MOU has to be ratified by the ETFO members by June 23rd.
