In her first ever-pageant, Celina Rivas-Vasquez has won the title Miss Teen Canada for 2013. For the Grae 12 montcalm Secondary School student, the title comes with a crown, a sash and a purpose.
"I'm going to do mission work in El Salvador," noting tht the Central American country is her father's birthplace. But when she's not in El Salvador, Rivas-Vasquez plans to continue her work at a soup kitchen for the poor.
In her brief reign, Rivas-Vasquez has already delivered a speech at Girls Night Out - a fundraising event for Easter Seals Ontario - and returned to Chippewa Public School where she spoke to the Grade 7-8 class about being true to oneself.
Principal Cathy Furlong said the Montcalm staff sponsored Rivas-Vasquez's pursuit to the title. "All of the staff immediately jumpon on to make sure that she had the opportunity to go and represent Montcalm and London."
Furlong was quick to ad, "We're helping good citizens, not pretty girls."
