The unemployment rate in Canada was 7.1% at the end of the fourth quarter of 2012, down 0.3 percentage points from the previous quarter. This represents the lowest unemployment rate since the fourth quarter of 2008.
Total and full time employment levels increased in th fourth quarter to new records for Canada. The gains were largely centred in the service industries, while losses occurred in some good producing sector.
Increases were mainly concentrated in the service sector, with major gains in trade, the financial sector and health services. Gains were tempered by losses in manufacturing and natural resources.
Full-time job losses in New Brunswick were outweighed by increases in th rest of the country in the fourth quarter of 2012.
