Yesterday was the day history was made in St.Thomas. The L&PS corridor officially opened shortly after four o'clock. Dozens and dozens of people were in attendance, many dressed in 20's garb - a nod to the theme of the day. Live music and speeches held listener with rapt attention, as the community held its breath in anticipation. Dan Vernackt, president of Port Stanley Rail was on hand to oversee the whole operation.
Also in attendance were MP Joe Preston and MPP Jeff Yurek, Mayor Heather Jackson an many council members, and just about everyone else in the community. Mayor Jackson says the plan for the rail station started in 2010 at the plowing match and stated the funding for the project came from the Dorothy Palmer Estate, the federal government and some municipal taxes.
