High School hockey teams are now threatening top play somewhere else due to the high costs to play at the St.Thomas Timken Centre.
The trend has already been seen in travel hockey where some teams tend to practice outside the city in area arenas such as Belmont, Port Stanley and Aylmer. Alderman Dave Warden brought the issue to light at council on Monday after receiving a call from a local high school coach. He suggests that the city should make a special rate for high school teams to play in the afternoon.
Warden expect a report back in July so council can deal with this situation before the high school hockey season is upon us again.
