How to Find Good Contractors

The beginning of the year brings thoughts of upcoming house projects.  Should we redo the washroom, or extend the deck, or both?

When adding an extension on your home, or renovating previously used space, a contractor will either make the experience gratifying and encouraging for future upgrades or create fear in taking on such a project ever again.

To ease any anxiety, I have compiled a list of items to keep in mind to ensure your renovation project is a successful one.

  • Check out the Better Business Bureau
  • Ask friends and family for recommendations
  • Visit accredited contractor websites
    • Ask for references of work done doing the job you are looking to get done
      • Ask for a contractor’s licence
      •  Confirm that the contractor has insurance; it will save you and the contractor from unforeseen fees if accidents occur

Lastly, once a contractor is found, be sure to write a very detailed contract of what work is to be done, time lines, materials needed, and associated costs.  Payments should be made in instalments, and the final payment given once work is completed.

GOOD LUCK!!
