Advice For First Time Buyers

Is It Your First Time?

1. Pre-Qualification

Have you been pre-qualified for a mortgage loan yet?  If not, meeting with a mortgage lender to see if you can get pre-qualified for a loan can be an important first step. Knowing how much you will be able to afford will make your search for that perfect home a little easier. Sellers will also be much more receptive to serious buyers who are pre-qualified because they know you are within their price range.

2. Know What Your Want

Knowing what you want in a home can be very helpful.  Making a list of what you need and want takes some careful thinking and planning but once you know exactly what you are looking for, you will be able to begin searching for your dream home.

3. Get Professional Representation from a REALTOR®

Buying or selling a home can be one of the most significant events in your life.  Hiring a real estate professional will ensure that each step in the home buying process is as stress-free and as seamless as possible. Your sales representative will be able to provide you with essential market information and recommendations on ideal properties that fit your needs and wants.

4. Be Objective

Buyers, especially first time home buyers can let emotions get in the way when purchasing their first home. Keeping an objective mind and thinking more with your head than your heart is very important. Remember the things on your list. Does this home really meet your requirements? Hurried decisions can create regret in the future.  So take your time, there are many homes on the market and you will find the one.

5. Home Inspection

A home inspection is a limited, non-invasive examination of the condition of a home. Acquiring the services of a professional home inspector can save you thousands of dollars down the road. A home inspector will evaluate the home and reveal any repairs or damages that need to be fixed. Home inspections are usually conducted by a professional who has the training and certifications to perform such inspections.
