HARMLESS HOUSEHOLD CLEANING SOLUTIONS
We are all concerned about our air and water clean. Here are some suggestions of what to use to help keep everything clean without using toxic products that hurt the environment.
Shake together ½ teaspoon liquid detergent, 3 tablespoons vinegar, and 2 cups of water in a spray bottle. Spray on your windows and wipe as you usually do.
Dissolve 4 tablespoons of baking soda in a quart of water. Mix well. Use in a spray bottle or with a sponge on kitchen and bathroom surfaces. Rinse with clear water for a clear shine.
Toilet Bowl Cleaner
Clean and deodorize a toilet bowl by sprinkling some baking soda into the bowl followed by a generous portion of vinegar. Scour with a toilet bowl brush and then flush.
Mix olive oil (1 ½ cups) with vinegar (1/2 cup). Apply to furniture with a clean soft cloth.
Use a plunger to unclog drains. Improve the flow in slow drains by pouring one cup of baking soda down the drain followed by one cup of vinegar. Cover and let stand for 5 minutes to allow the mixture to foam up. This breaks down fat and allows the clog to be washed down. Wash away with very hot water.
Faucet Mineral and Lime Stain Remover
Soak a cleaning cloth in vinegar and wrap it around the faucet for about an hour. This dissolves the deposits that build up around the faucet.
Dampen the oven surface by sprinkling on some water. Rub using fine steel wool and baking soda as an abrasive paste. Wipe away with a sponge. Rinse with a damp cloth and let dry before using the oven.
Mix two teaspoons tea tree oil (available at the health food store) and two cups of water in a spray bottle. Shake to blend and spray on problem areas. Do not rinse.
Kitchen tiles Cleaner
Use baking soda to mop tiles. Pour half a cup of baking soda into 2 gallons of water. Scrub with a String mop or sponge.
Wood Floors Cleaner
Mix 9 parts warm water to one part white vinegar.
Narrow Vase Cleaner
Fill halfway with water. Drop 2 Alka Seltzer tablet to do the dirty work for you.
