CTV Consumer Alert Show - Feb 8, 2012
February 9, 2012 -- Pat Foran ran a segment on CTV’s Consumer Alert Show last night on “private sellers” during the 6pm newscast. TREB was contacted and asked to verify information.
TREB responded as follows:
- We do not comment on the specific business models of our Members;
- You have to be a Member of TREB in order to place listings on the MLS® system (post, amend, delete listings). Beyond that it’s up to each REALTOR® to determine the best business model for themselves, as long as they have the training and adhere to the regulations;
- It’s much like other professionals (lawyers, nurses, architects, etc.). Each gets extensive training in her or his field; they are required to belong to professional associations; they have the advantages of ongoing training and resources; but each architect, lawyer or nurse can decide for him or herself how best to use that training and those resources to make a living; and
- As for Property Guys, we can tell you that they are not Members of TREB. How they go about operating, what sort of promises they make to their clients, or partnerships they make with other agents, that is something you would have to ask them.
CTV decided to run with the last bullet point of TREB’s statement.
