8 week countdown to listing your home.- week 4

This may seem obvious but it's surprising how things get overlooked.  If you don't have time, hire a professional or call in family and friends.    Get the kids involved if you can.

The visible items in your home like the vent covers and light switch plates are (to a buyer) an indication of how you treat your home.  If you have a lot of items that seem to be hurried over or missed then the buyer will wonder if you took care of the important components of the home.  It's psychological.

So go top to bottom including the walls.  Here are some of the things that seem to get overlooked.

  • fan blades
  • bathroom fan covers
  • floor registers and other vent covers
  • curtain rods and finials
  • venetian blinds
  • corners of baseboards and quarter round
  • the furnace filter
  • window frames (use a q tip on sliders if you have to)
  • behind the stove, fridge and microwave
  • clean out the dryer vent
  • all light fixtures
  • clean all plumbing faucets to a shine.

With four weeks to go don't think your cleaning is over.  Once cleaned it has to stay clean.

Here are some guides to help you out.  Don't forget that natural products work as good if not better than heavy chemicals and won't leave your home smelling like an institution.  Baking soda or cornstarch, vinegar, lemon, hydrogen peroxide and borax are some secret weapons against dirt.

We are on the home stretch!
