The wait is over, the new Galaxy Cinemas opened on Good Friday.
This is great for Red Deer and area. Long have we endured older theatres with terrible parking and mediocre viewing. Prior to an economic and real estate boom, the City of Red Deer decided that they would pass a bylaw forbidden theatres from locating outside the down town core. While I can appreciate the desire to preserve down town shopping it came at a price to consumers.
The county of Red Deer has land on the southern edge of Red Deer and this area is call "Gasoline Alley". For many this is merely a place to get gas or a stretch on their journey from Calgary to Edmonton or vice versa. Many from Calgary have experienced Red Deer as only Gasoline Alley. So so much more but I'll get to that some other post.
Gasoline Alley has lots in store for future development and is so close to Springbrook and Penhold it has become a destination shopping centre and economic zone for many with RV dealers, Car dealers, Costco, Staples, Leon's and now Cineplex Galaxy Cinemas. We're fast maturing as a metropolitan area and enjoying the luxuries of larger centres.
The new theatre opened with no big signage, and press. Soft opening compared to tothers. Probably wise given the staffing challenge in the area. The popcorn was hot and fresh, the drinks cold and wet, and the seating is great!! Ten stadium style seating with big curved screens, lighted stairs for those bathroom runs during the show (a must with kids) and the sound was rich and full. While the discount theatre has been a mainstay for our family of three kids, this new theatre will surely become a frequent stop as it is 7 minutes from my door in Penhold and for those of us in Penhold and Springbrook that includes a drive with no traffic lights :-).
Check it out. Another reason to move-here and call Red Deer and area home.
