Atlantic Nations come to town.

This past weekend, July 8th to 10th, over 2000 beautifully buffed, polished and pampered vehicles came once to Moncton once again.  My wife and I try to take an extended lunch hour on Friday to take advantage of all the cars being displayed on Main St.  They shut down a portion of Main St. all day Friday and park the cars all along road and people just mill about.  It's great ...

May was a really great month at the Moncton Board

Many people, some REALTORS (r) included, are beginning to think that we are no longer important in the real estate transaction.  Well, if May 2011 is any indication, people are still relying on their REALTOR to handle the buying and/or selling of their biggest single asset. Our local Board had an unbelieveable May 2011.  The total volume sold in May was $50,797, 409 - this ...

Market flattens a bit in May

Metro Moncton experienced a bit of a flattening of our market in May.  The units sold is still up 12% for the year but May was down 7% over May 2009.  Part of this might have been caused by the new mortgage rules put in place on April 19th by the Federal Finance Minister to cool off the inflated market that we never seem to get in Moncton.  Regardless, the market remains good and sellers ...

February stats are in

I received the February sales report for the Greater Moncton Real Estate Board today and the numbers are encouraging.  We are solidly ahead of 2009 levels but not quite up to 2008 yet. The number of expired listings arre down and our new listings are up 7% which is all good news.  Most of us are desperate for some new inventory and so an increase in listings is welcome.   ...

Olympic flame comes to Greater Moncton

It was s suitable party as over 12,000 people gathered at the new track and field stadium at U de M to welcome the Olympic flame to our area.  It had made its way over from PEI earlier in the day and went through Moncton last night. This morning it wound it's way through Riverview and headed towards Fundy Park, Sussex and on to Saint John.  My wife and I watched as the torch was passed ...

Two NB High School's drama classes going to Scotland

Here is another example of NB hitting above its weight.  Fredericton High (FHS) and Moncton High(MHS) have been selected to be among only 7 high schools in Canada to attend the International Performing Arts festival in Edinburgh, Scotland.  This is one of the largest such festivals in the world. I think it is so amazing that we have 2 of 7 schools chosen from Canada coming from ...

Area building permits shows continued growth

City of Moncton building permits, year to date have hit $88.5 million according to an article in the Times Transcript by Brent Mazerolle.  This is a two hundred and fifty percent increase over this time last year. Developments like a third Cora's in the McManaman building on Mapleton Rd., Ashford's new building on Main and Vaugh Harvey, the new court house and continued work at the casinois keeping ...

ICF Intelligent Communities Award

Friday afternoon is when we find out if Moncton is chosen as the Most Intelligent Community or not.  Landing in the Top 7 is a great accomplishment, but we want to be number 1.  Surprisingly enough, "poor little New Brunswick" has two cities viaing for the title.  Our sister city of Fredericton is in the race too.  Imagine, a have not Province like ours having two of the most ...
